Playing out right before our very eyes, in national news, is a real life situation with “Flip-Kick-Listen-like” techniques being applied. The exact details of what took place aren’t of interest any longer. It happened. Let us instead examine the resolution, the “what now?” In life, stuff happens.
President Obama made a move,“I want to make clear that in my choice of words, I unfortunately gave the impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department and Sergeant Crowley specifically…I could have calibrated those words differently, and I told this to Sergeant Crowley….instead of flinging accusations, we can all be a little more reflective about what we can do to contribute to more unity.’’
Respect. Contribution. Unity. Professor Gates said, “It is time for all of us to move on, and to assess what we can learn from this experience.”
Sergeant James Crowley, President of the United States Barack Obama and Harvard Professor Henry Gates Jr. will have a meeting of the minds at The White House. Also going along are younger versions of these men , their inner children, let’s call them Jimmy, Barry and Hank. Powerful men will reflect, hopefully shake hands and enjoy a beer together. Jimmy, Barry and Hank will be meeting after school to duke it out, so to speak and then, as kids so easily do, return to normal.
A move was made, communication exists, a meeting is planned and humor is present!
“Crowley wanted to find out if there was a way of getting the press off his lawn,’’ the president said. “I informed him that I can’t get the press off my lawn. He pointed out that my lawn is bigger than his lawn.”
Wouldn’t a rewind, delete or eject option come in handy? Life can be messy. Imagine being a “fly on the wall” witnessing these masters skillfully at work. Now, imagine the ripple effect. Trust.

I am so glad Obama took the courageous step of making that phone call to Sgt. Crowley. He admitted his mistake and that alone is vulnerable but yet so powerful.
We can move mountains when we use the right words with intention. I’m so glad that fiasco is over. Let’s put it behind us. Let’s give peace a chance!!!!!
Trust and respect heals all, and it begins with us. When we take 100% responsibility for our words and actions we make the world a better place.
Treating others the way we wish to be treated, and cleaning “it” up when the contrary happens is the first step to a wonderful world.
